| At present
we are able to provide a research service using the material we have available
in the centre. The bare facts and figures can often be expanded by making
use of the wealth of knowledge within our community, especially among the
older generation who have a great tradition of oral history.
The cost for a basic three hour search through the census records etc is £25.00. Any further work will be charged at £15.00 per hour. Unfortunately we are not yet able to accept any debit or credit cards but payment from overseas can be made by travellers cheque. Please bear with us with regards to time when we are performing research as currently we have only one part time member of staff. Online listings which we have available to aid your search for your Ross of Mull Family ancestory are: Female Lines of descendants of Malcolm McLean and Sarah (McKechnie) McLean Female Lines of descendants of Donald Livingstone and Cirsty (Campbell) Livingstone Female Lines of descendants of Donald McLean and Sarah (Merron)Beaton of Ardchiavaig Ross of Mull Names listing as included in the 1841 Census
Among the resources we have available within the centre are; Census Records 1841-1891 for Ross of Mull and Iona OPR's1803-1854 for parishes of Kilfinichen and Kilvickeon Selected valuation rolls for Ross of Mull and Iona 1858-1929 Selected Electoral Registers 1910-1965 for Ross of Mull and Iona Various land Records and Rent Rolls Passenger lists of Intending Emigrants to Australia and Canada
In the centre we also have various booklets detailing the history of an individual or family. These booklets are a valuable resource and we are grateful to the individuals who took the time to research them and then were kind enough to give a copy to the ROMHC. We are always keen to exchange information and are very interested in finding out what happened to people after they left Mull. Among the families we have information about are; The descendants of Donald MacArthur (b.1795 Ardalanish) and Colin MacArthur (b. 1793 Tir Fheargain) who left for Ontario, taking their families, in 1830 and c.1842 respectively. The family of John McDonald (Catchean) and Ann McArthur (Creich) who settled in New Zealand. Two of the MacLean brothers, from Knocknafenaig, who married two of the Beaton sisters from Ardchiavaig. Both couples settled in Ontario. |
