The Ross of Mull Historical Centre is located at Tigh
na Rois Visitor Centre, Millbrae Cottage, next to the ruins of the Old Corn Mill, on the edge of Bunessan Village. Car parking is available by the bridge.
Our opening hours are Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm Easter til October. Winter hours are Monday to Thursday 10am to 1pm.
We have a large archive of geneaological material relating to the Ross of Mull.
At present we are able to provide a research service using the material we have available in the Centre. The bare facts and figures can often be expanded by making use of the wealth of knowledge within our community, especially among the older generation who have a great tradition of oral history.
The cost for a basic three hour search through the census records etc is £25.00. Any further work will be charged at £15.00 per hour. We can take payment for this service through PayPal, please contact us for details.
Among the resources we have available within the centre are;
Census Records 1841-1901 for Ross of Mull and Iona
OPR's1803-1854 for parishes of Kilfinichen and Kilvickeon
Selected valuation rolls for Ross of Mull and Iona 1858-1929
Selected Electoral Registers 1910-1965 for Ross of Mull and Iona
Passenger lists of Intending Emigrants to Australia and Canada
Selected death records and Graveyard transcriptions
Plus a host of other books, documents, maps and photographs
In the Centre we have various booklets detailing the history of individuals or families. These booklets are a valuable resource and we are grateful to the individuals who took the time to research them and then were kind enough to give a copy to the ROMHC. We are always keen to exchange information and are very interested in finding out what happened to people after they left Mull.
