New Interpretive Panels Installed on the Ross of Mull
22nd February 2005
Ionad Eachdraidh an Rois Mhuilich recently completed the construction and installation of two Interpretation Panels on the Ross of Mull. These panels are designed to help walkers enjoy the views and aid identification of plants and other wildlife that can be seen around the area. The panels are placed on top of Cairns built from local stone, designed to sit sympathetically in their surroundings.

The first panel is sited at the top of Tòrr Mòr Quarry. From here the outlying islands, including Iona, Tiree, Coll, Staffa and Ulva, can be identified and viewed from the panel.

The second panel stands beside the car park for Kilvickeon Burial Ground, on the road to Scoor, it describes the route to the deserted township of Shiaba. Overlooking the Firth of Lorne the islands of Jura, Islay and Colonsay are clearly visible. The waters are busy with fishing boats and yachts while buzzards wheel overhead.

Ionad Eachdraidh an Rois Mhuilich hope the panels will help walkers further appreciate the unique and beautiful surroundings of the Ross of Mull.

The Argyll & Bute Local Biodiversity Partnership and Heritage Lottery Fund funded the installation of the panels.
